JEWETT, GayWalton Montague, wife of Bryce D. Jewett Jr., died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, peacefully and with her family at her side after a short battle with cancer . Born March 11, 1947, she grew up in Richmond, Va. Gay graduated from The Collegiate School, where she first met her husband, Bryce. Gay then graduated from Hollins College. She served First Presbyterian Church in many capacities including six years as a Deacon, six years as an Elder on the Church's Session, chair of the First Presbyterian 200th Anniversary planning committee, and she was the first female Clerk of Session in the Church's history. She also enjoyed working at the Tuckahoe Women's Club as the Club Administrator for 16 years. She loved her volunteer work at Collegiate where she was the recipient of the 1997 Outstanding Alumni Service Award. At Collegiate, she was co-chair of "The Stuffed Cougar Too," chair of Village Green Fair, Auction chair, and she served on the Board of Trustees as the President of the Patron's Association. Gay and Bryce just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past fall. In addition to being a devoted wife, she adored her two children and her six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. Warren Montague; and her sister-in-law, Sue Montague. Gay is survived by her husband, Bryce; daughter, Jennifer Ruth and her husband, Scott; and grandchildren, Anne Mason, Scotty, Bayler and Parker; son, Bryce D. Jewett III and his wife, Erin; and grandchildren, Madeline and Isabel; brother, John W. Montague Jr. and his wife, Jean; brother, David L. Montague and his wife, Neblett; and sister, Mary Warren Pinnell. She is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Warren and Kevin Montague, Preston Montague and Whitney Mathews, and C. Wellford Pinnell IV and five great- nieces and nephews. Gay's greatest joys were working in her garden and spending time with her family, especially at Virginia Beach with her children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow.
