In loving memory of M. Randle "Ranny" Fitzgerald

Ranny began a lifetime of impatience by insisting on entering the world early. During a train ride home to Virginia from Kentucky, Ranny's mother went into labor. The train made an emergency stop in Huntington, W.V., and Elizabeth gave birth to her only child. Impatient as always, Ranny passed away instantly on Sunday, May 3, 2009, while on a short vacation with longtime friends -- they had attended the Kentucky Derby the day before.

A true southern belle and "Scarlett" to those who knew her best, Ranny approached life with zeal and gusto even during her agonizing treatments for breast cancer -- all the while maintaining her elegance, grace and style. She thrived on knowledge and received multiple degrees. She was proudest of her MBA from Southern Illinois University.

Ranny was preceded in death by her mother and by her beloved father, J. Patterson, whom she simply adored. She was survived by her longtime companion and life partner, Jo Anne Cooper. Ranny also leaves behind two stepsisters, three nieces, a nephew, cousins and countless friends and extended family. She will be missed by many -- Ranny brought joy, enthusiasm and strength to all fortunate enough to cross her path.

A celebration of life will be held in honor of our beloved friend just before sunset on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Smathers Beach, Key West. For those lucky enough to play a part in "Ranny's World," please contact Jo Cooper at 305-295-9008 for further details.
