The BDN Maine published her obituary and had this to say:
Barbara was an exceedingly warm and loving person, and
radiated an infectious happiness to her many friends and
family. Her credo, 'Live well, laugh often, love much,' captures
her spirit quite beautifully. Barbara will be greatly missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
Deering Estate Foundation, 16701 SW 72nd Avenue, Palmetto
Bay, FL, 33157 or to Friends of Acadia, 43 Cottage Street, P.O.
45, Bar Harbor, ME, 04609.
After graduating from Hollins, Barbie received a degree in Interior Design from the Inchbald School of Design in England. Upon returning to the U.S. she worked for Hastings Design and the Greater Miami Opera.
She was a founding member of the Miami City Ballet, and President of the Dade Monroe Mental Health Board. Additionally she was a board member of the College of the Atlantic, and the Women's Health Center. In her community she supported the Northeast Harbor Library, the YMCA, and Friends of Acadia; and she participated as a hospice volunteer. She did all of this while also being a director of her family's concern.
On a personal note, Barbie was my roommate our junior year. Always gracious, she was a truly gentle soul who brightened a room with her fun-loving spirit and elegant style. Her departure is a loss for us all. May this note serve as a reminder to stay connected with those we cherish.
